BSWN would like to invite you to our Annual Review event titled: 'Reimagining the BAME VCSE: Connected, resilient, engaged’, including the AGM, which will be hosted at the Malcolm X Centre on 20th November 2018, between 6.30 and 8.30pm.
Public sector cuts, polarised political environment, Brexit and technology are all having significant impact on how BAME organisations see themselves and operate, according to our Bristol's BAME-led Sector Review report, Sept 2018.
A third of organisations surveyed operate on budgets lower than £5,000 a year and half on less than £25,000 a year. 42% have no paid staff and are entirely reliant on volunteers to deliver their activities. Just three, or 9%, of organisations employed more than 10 staff.
We will share the findings and recommendations from the research, and discuss ways the sector can better respond/adopt to these changes in a connected, engaged and resilient way to develop effective solutions to complex challenges facing the community.
Invited keynote speakers include: Victor Adebowale CBE (CEO of Turning Point) and Cllr Asher Craig,Deputy Mayor, who will also participate in the panel discussion.
The AGM is expected to be a fairly short occasion with a formal agenda chaired by Dr Marie - Annick Gournet, Chair of BSWN. In order to participate in our AGM, you will have to be a registered member of BSWN. We are currently conducting an overhaul of our membership ahead of our AGM and we hope that you will renew your membership of BSWN or if you are not already a member, will apply to join. At present we do not charge a membership fee. To find out more about our membership and to apply, please click here.
