You are invited to the launch event for Bristol Urban Enterprise & Innovation Network Launch to be held on Friday, 9th November, 6pm – 8pm at Bristol City Hall. This network is part of our response to the findings from our BAME business and social enteprise sector research undertaken this summer and commissioned by Bristol City Council.
Among the main barriers identified most frequently was the lack of information and support when accessing finance and dealing with bureaucracy. The supporting infrastructure already in place to aid new and old entrepreneurs navigate the challenges of business development was deemed inefficient and, in some cases, discriminatory. In fact, racism in the forms of negative stereotyping, and conscious and unconscious biases was overwhelmingly identified as the most significant barrier to BAME business development. The exclusionary nature of the city has been found, for instance, in the case of existing networking opportunities; a perspective shared by both BAME business leaders and strategic respondents.
In responding to above findings, BSWN working with partners have decided to launch a Network to aid the development of effective networking, collaboration and innovation amongst BAME entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs.
