Connecting People into Communities (CPC)

a project aimed at supporting and building community connections through sustainable community activities

The Connecting People into Communities Project’s main aim is to support building community connections by encouraging sustainable community activities. The need for this project came to light as a result of the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has made it difficult for members of the community, especially, those from racially Miniriotised and underrepresented backgrounds to struggle to emerge due to health concerns and poor mental health due to the Cost of Living Crisis.

This project is led by BSWN in partnership with Bristol Somali Resource Centre and the Pakistani Welfare Organisation, who together will be employing a community development officer, who will work to build local community connections and community activities with people struggling to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic due to concerns for health and wellbeing, as well as the impact of the Cost-of-living-Crisis.

The project has been incredibly impactful so far and we are delighted to share this opportunity for anyone who would like to help us evaluate our approach and tell the story of this project and the people all partners in the project supported.

Community Activities

The photograph on the right was taken at a wellbeing session with elder men from the Black and Minoritised community at Bristol Somali Resource Centre’s home at Wellspring Settlement. The session helped the participants learn to support their mental health and help them to understand their thoughts and feelings.

The photographs below have been taken during recent community activities to support the well-being of Black and Minoristed people in Bristol, the photo on the left was taken during a trip for socially isolated elderly women. They enjoyed a walk in Bristol Botanic Gardens which has 4,500 plant species from over 200 plant families. The activity helped the women to connect with nature to improve their mental health.

In the video below is a yoga session for local women aged 50+ to support them with their well-being and a henna drawing activity that was hosted on Tuesday the 16th of August at the 58th Bristol Scout Group Scout Resource Centre.
