The Research Action Coalition for Race Equality (RACE) was virtually launched on Wednesday the 30th of June 2021. A strategic collaborative co-designed space between BSWN and University of Bristol.

RACE aims to connect research and data to community-led approaches, in ways that recognise, value and respond to communities’ lived experiences and diverse forms of knowledge and expertise, through partnership, collaboration and co-production between academics, community groups and policy-makers. Research, data and evidence are critical to the campaign for race equality but those who need information do not always have access to it.

The map below, which was developed with students from the University through the Bristol Model, which aims to connect undergraduate students to research projects with local community organisations, shows the race equality space in Bristol and wider Southwest region. It provides a comprehensive picture of the nature of the work being undertaken by local organisations.

The RACE Data Hub aims to bring together national, regional, and local data showing the nature of race disparities in the South West in relation to key social policy areas such as health, housing, and education, to help us understand what data is being held, in what form and what the gaps are. In addition, we hope to address issues of accessibility by providing not only these raw data, but charts, graphs, and summaries of the data to ensure that those who work in the race equality space have access to the information they need in ways that work for them.

Meet the RACE steering group and Bristol Model placement students HERE. Should your organisation have any data race disparities that you happy to add to the hub, please get in touch with the team on research@bswn.org.uk
