On Friday the 11th of November we hosted our first event in partnership with BookHaus Bristol. This event was held at the Malcolm X Centre, located in St Pauls, Bristol's historical heart of the African and Caribbean community. It was a pleasure to listen to Professor Hakim Adi launch his new book, ‘African and Caribbean People in Britain.’ Professor Hakim Adi is the first historian of African heritage to become a professor of history in Britain. He took us on an explorative and educational journey of his research and Black British history through a brilliant presentation.

In the conversation following the presentation, Professor Hakim Adi was introduced and questioned by Sandra Gordan, (Ujima Radio and BBC Radio) for a more in-depth discussion of the book and Black British history. After this, participants were invited to share their experiences and ask questions. Many of them speaking about the lack of African and Caribbean history in the UK education system and racial injustice today.

At the end of the event, a pop-up kitchen from Jikoni East Africa served delicious East African food to our attendees, which was thoroughly enjoyed. A bookstand from Bookhaus Bristol allowed audience members to purchase both new titles, 'African & Caribbean People in Britain' and 'Black Voices on Britain' (edited by Professor Hakim Adi), and other merchandise.
