African Storytelling

There is a rich tradition throughout Africa of oral storytelling. The transmission of knowledge, history and experiences were mainly done through oral traditions and performances and storytelling playing n important part in the transmission of knowledge from generation to generation. The messages may be in the form of folktales, fables, narrations or proverbs. A storyteller might use words, body movements, drumming or singing to convey the story. Storytelling is an important event shared with the communities who might take part in it.

One person that is using this tradition of storytelling in Bristol is Kabbo Ferdinand who is ceremonial drummer and poet. Originally from South Africa, Kabbo carries on the traditions of storytelling and run storytelling events around the city.
